SyntheticBlinkerFluid
Looking at the gauge cluster, on the left hand side of the steering column, below the gauges, there is two cover plates. One farthest to the left (near the heater vent) I have figured for a factory foglight switch, and the other (closest to the column) is a wide cover, and when I pulled it off, there is a hole for what looks like a rheostat. Is there anything that is supposed to go in this whole or inplace of this cover?
SyntheticBlinkerFluid
I borrowed a pic from Alex GL-10 to show what I'm talking about. I'm glad you had the steering wheel turned.

MilesFox
the cover near the fan switch would havebeenthefan switch for 85 and 86, and where the fan switch exists now wouldbe the wiper switch for 85 and

I'm just interested in stuff like that. Monstaru gave me a fog light switch out of a XT6 that will fit in the hole closest to the vent. I'm gonna use that. fangster
In Australia models the circled plate would be used for either electric mirrors or a manual choke. The one to the LEFT of that one is for foglight switch (or rear gate release) Did the switch that Monstaru gave you look like this? That is the XT6 unit - and it fits like a glove in there. I put a little green cap on the light inside the switch (it was white when I bought it new) to make it match the rest of the dash.
misledxcracker
The one in my '86 GL is a circle push-button switch, with an orange light to it... I put a new switch on it though, as the original one broke...
