chilyb56
Thanks all for your help with my previous thread on the 96 outback. This dealer also just got in a 98 legacy wagon with 119K miles. I think it's a base model (2.2L ?) auto. By the way, the car's also for my fiance which is part of the reason I'm looking into autos - personal choice would be a manual, no question. Anyway, anyone have any tips on things to look out for with this particular model and year? I'm most likely going to bring both cars to an independent mechanic to thoroughly check out, but maybe the 98 with lower mileage is a better way to go. Juan
First, make certain that it's not a Brighten. Then take a look here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55409 Good luck Juan

johnceggleston
the brighton is the very basic model, no power options like windows, locks mirrors. no tach. the engine and trans are the same. that link goes to this thread! dmanaenk
Heh, I was looking for a brighton with MT. Just less stuff that could break down on an old car. And I hate TCS/ABS. Tach is very easy to put in, as is cruise control, and that's all I need The only issue with brighton models - they are the cheapest, thus highly likely were serviced with cheapest parts at cheapest places, so you have to inspect very carefully.
