NW OR/SW WA... wheeling? weekend of April 21-23

I'm down for that!

today is good day for that ...raining alot good for mudslinging for sure! I'm heading up to Hood today.

ahhh need more notice.

OK, does any time between 4/21-4/23 work for anyone? It's actually my b-day that weekend but I'd rather get out in my subaru after months of hard labor and many dollars spent on it.. tally about $1200 this month alone, although most of that was tires, carburetor, exhaust(sounds like a v8 now...), and misc parts. But anyways, I wanna get it out and break it in and have some buddies to tow me out if I break it.... something near by would be good, such as tillamook or somewhere in the coast range or scapoose, something further away is also good if a few people are interested in campin out overnight.

I have the 21st and 22nd off. I would be interested in coming up there one of those days.

lotta nw washington meets going on but not as much down here... wanna round up 3 or 4 other people some weekend to go find some trails near here. anyone interested?

I'd be interested. My girlfriend and I live in Naselle near Long Beach. We have tons of trails and mud and hillclimbs within 10miles of our house. Also, River and creek Crossings and other fun stuff. I'm sure our roommates would like to bring their 84 GL as well.

Where's Near Here?

Sounds good to us if I can find a way to keep the water out of my carburator. Last night killed it again. We're about 45 mins from Tillamook. Scapooose is good, but here's good too and we could camp at our farm and have a bonfire or something- we're on a river.

near hear pretty much means around hour to hour and a half drive from portland, tillamook is about 45 minutes depending on traffic, longview is also about 45 minutes, not sure about long beach, but I've been on some smaller trails off logging roads up around clatskinie(sp?), not sure if thats similar to what you're talking about.

I had my subaru up at our farm, about a 2 hour drive from portland. Or hour and a half up the "back way," which is trecherously steep muddy rutted with straight drop off cliff oneside and straight up the other, was a lot of fun playin around up there today. Got some work done as well, but I also completely destroyed the drivers side strut, it was rattling around alot untill I got back to the freeway, and then it completely came apart when I pulled over cause my steering was incredibly loose; should be up and running tomorrow.

So, sounds like 2 people possibly 3, potentially more.

Ideas for location include

Scapoose

Tillamook

Longbeach

...where else sounds good? I dont mind a 2hour drive, but the shorter the drive the more likely my car will make it

we're about 2 hour away if you go via astoria, 1.5hours if you go via longview. we're 50 minutes from longview, and there's quite a bit of potential around here- miles and miles of good logging roads and mud and everything else for Subaru fun..

three definates here if we dont have to drive far, otherwise two.

(and it's clatskanie, in case you care.)

Well - I could probably join in on this one. Need to relocate my oil pressure sender, and a tighten up a couple odds and ends. I'll try to be ready.

I know some good trails in scapoose, but you unlifted and unlocked types beware - you won't make it without at least lift+locked+MT's.

you think lockers are definately needed? I guess if I need to I can weld up my rear diff this week but I'd rather not do that quite yet.

I wouldn't mind scapoose cause its nearby and i dont know anything out there. Last time I was out there a year or so ago in my jeep exploring around all I could find were some logging roads and virtually everything was gated.

With the rain like it's been, the mud will be pretty ugly - there will be much stuckness even with a locked diff. I would just rather not spend my day pulling stock soobs from huge, soob-swallowing mud holes. And there are some steep, very slick areas that need a good run at speed, with MT's and locked diffs to get up. Without the locker and the MT's, you'll never get up, and beleive me - none of us could pull someone up them. Anyone have an 5,000 lb winch? I don't....

Trails I know about are between scapoose and vernonia - there are some cool areas out there.

how bout up by our house in Naselle, WA. there's mud but not too much.. logging roads, river xings, hill climbs, powerlines and other stuff, and lots of people to pull you out.. it's 1.5-two hours from pdx.. my g/f makes it in about 1.5. i make it in about 2.0 at speed limit or below..

mapquest to: Upper Naselle Rd. naselle. wa. 98638

any other suggestions for places then GD? I'm still up for scapoose and I'll weld up my diff if you think its absolutely neccesary. What about around estecada?

I have a great place to go! Crooked finger, it's near Mt. Angle. We should all meet up at a common place and travel up together in a sweet subi-pac. What do you think?

tell us more bout this place, never heard of it, but that seems to be really close by if its anywhere near mt angel, mapquest said a 50 minute drive or 39 miles roughly, what's around there? The whole idea of traveling in a sweet subi pac doesnt sound too good to me unless you all like driving 50mph on the interstate, untill I get all my blocks welded and braced up(which may or may not happen by then) I take it easy at high speeds cause it handles funny and steering is really loose.

We could just meet up in Mt. Angel. It's a short drive from there. There are miles and miles of trails, everything ranging from easy to "oh ************". I think everyone will enjoy it. Sometimes there’s even snow at the top of the trails.

Do you have map of where this place is at? All mapquest will show me is that it's near Salem.

Put my vote down for RisSanSubaru's suggestion of something near Long Beach.

It's just a hair East outside of Scotts Mills. That's cool if everyone wants to go some other place. I was just trying to think of a cool place close to Portland. I'm open for April 23rd if we have something set up by then. I think we should just have a final vote or something on all the places suggested.
