recalled Subaru oil filter

The local Subaru put a 'new' type of smaller oil filter in my 1998 Legacy Outback on Dec 5th. I noticed an oil leak a few weeks later. I took the Outback in to the dealership and they diagnosed it as a leaking cam seal. Took it to an independent mechanic who put it on the rack and showed me that the oil filter was leaking. We couldn't see any leaks on the cam seals. His parts supplier (another Subaru dealer) told him that part had been recalled due to, guess what, leaks! Took it back to the original dealer again, and they informed me that this model of oil filter had been recalled. Oil filter part # 15208AA09A Oil Filter 65MM. Just a warning to anyone using this filter that it is likely to leak.

My independent has replaced it with the original Subaru oil filter which is now recommended. Anyone know where I can get more information about this recall?

Its NOT a recall.

 

It is simply a part number change.

 

ALL non-EZ30 engines now get the AA100 filter. Aka the small black one with lots fo JDM insignia all over it.

Just as Info:

I got big problems with a Luber Finer Filter, in it´s reference chart, it say aplicable to Subaru EA82 engine, but due to it´s low rise thread (It´s too lower than the border gasket) it only reaches the first one or two turns of the engine threads, so; when tou are drivin´ and engine gets´about it´s normal operatin´ temp, the filter "Explode Out" with a huge "BOOM!" throwin´ all the new oil on the road... Lettin´ engine without oil at high RPM´s It´s Too Dangerous!...

So, they at Luber Finer, did Change the Filter Specs, to Rise up the Thread...

I got that problem on my EA82 long time Ago... Since that, I Always check the new filter with the old one, to see if they match.
