Subaru in the Rainfroest Posted March 29, 2006 Share Posted March 29, 2006 for some reason my defroster will not kick on. the heat comes on but it just blows out the vents. had been doing this for about 3 days now. anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? 4x4_Welder Posted March 29, 2006 Share Posted March 29, 2006 The cable probably came apart, the wire part still will be in the correct place, but the end of the cable case breaks off at the clamp. On mine, I pulled the heater control panel, pulled the thing into defrost position, and put it all back together. It's ok until you move it off the defrost position. hooziewhatsit Posted March 29, 2006 Share Posted March 29, 2006 a vacuum line under the hood probably came undone. There should be a line from the intake manifold to the clear-ish looking canister on the passenger side rear of the engine bay. There should be another line going from the canister to the driver side firewall. If this gets unhooked, you won't have any control over the vent settings. I had a case once when under heavy load, the vents would shift from defrost to bi-lev. Replaced that vacuum cannister and fixed the problem.
