Oops. I stripped/broke it again.

Recommended Posts

Man, I hate being young(16), strong, and let's not forget stupid.

Anyways, after the last couple days ive probably snapped about 5 or 6 bolts (fan guard[2], battery holder[1], alternator[1], im sure theres 1 or 2 I can't think of) on my 93 Loyale S/W. PT 4wd 5 Spd.

Well anyway, while redoing the CV boots on it, I've been putting it back together and while tightening the ball joint back up, I stripped the damn thing. so after a good 30 min. we finally got it off....luckily alls that I stripped was the castle nut. So now, my grandpa is off to the hardware store.....nothing ever goes smooth for me.....damn lol. at least I have another month before I get my license, hopefully we'll have her all ready by then......

yeah, no isht. seriously, couple hints for breaking free frozen bolts:

tap with a hammer while loosening

pb blaster/liquid wrench/wd40

try tightening just a little bit before you loosen(not alot)

try loading the nut/bolt with a one of those breaker bars that has a little flex, use something like a jack to get some force on it(careful) and tap it with a hammer.

also try heating it up with a propane/map torch

most exhaust boltds/nuts have to be cut off.

nice thing about larger trucks, the bolts and stuff dont break, you just need 10ft of pipe and a 4 ton floor jack

Being 16 Male also, can't say I've really had this problem much, Though I am rather scrawny.

Luckyly for me, everything on the Brat and XT seem to come off and go on quite nicely:banana:

MMM, A tourque wrench sure would be nice though...

I'm more the husky/football build type...plus I left weights everyday. I also noticed that when I play basketball i shoot to hard almost all the time lol.....I think the weights are getting to me!

joking aside, you might get a torque wrench.

since you're "only" 16, you can't have been wrenching for too long, and since you are aggressively working out, your muscle development and your lack of experience are going to make it relatively harder to develop a "mechanic's touch"..

I've been around tools since I was around 12-13 I used to ride BMX bikes, So technically I'm more of a boke mechanic....I can do ANYTHING involving bikes, cars is a different story. With BMX's you tighten the stuff as hard as you can basically, at least I did with no problems:grin: .
