ekimyerac
My 88 Sub Wagon, the 4wd lever just rattles. It sound like it is grinding against something. If you pull towards the driver it will quiet down, I have stuck a rag in the hole and it help some, but the sound is so loud I can't drive with it. Any ideas. Subarian
I would get underneath it and check the linkage. There's a pin (or maybe it's a bolt, I can't remember) on the end of the linkage that sometimes gets loose.
Subaru_dude
yeah... it's something that holds up the linkage, and I think when it goes out, it let's the linkdage scrape against the driveshaft. that happened to mine... made alot of really annoying noise. Nothing a piece of gravel and a zip tie couldn't fix. I would recommend something a little more.... professional perhaps? lol.
ekimyerac
Well, the rattle got worse. In fact as it turns out, it was the rear drive shaft u-joints. Boy when it finally broke you should have heard the noise. It is fixed now, 24 rear drive shaft, and I took it some friends who fixed it and it is almost like another car. Want to keep it for another 100,000 miles. It is really quiet, I can hear and don't feel that I must weat hunters ear plugs. Mike
