A DOG
I am gonna bring my wagon into the shop on thursday to get the weber put on and a few other things done. I've seen pics of the EA82 intake manifold and the hole is much bigger than the EA81 manifold. I have heard of people swapping them on but whats the proccess. Exactly which EA82 manifold will work on an EA81? The earlier carbed wagons or the pushrod motor? Maybe a specific year? Also are the EA82 manifold gaskets the same as EA81? Basically I need to know the order of parts. From the EA82 intake manifold to weber. Yes I did lots of searching and found info on webers, but not on swapping on an EA82 intake manifold and which gaskets are needed. So any help is much appriciated. Im doing this at my suby mechanics so he will have all the gaskets and what not, I just don't know EXACTLY what parts go on and in what order? Jerry DeMoss
The ea82 intake that you will need is one off of a carbed car.85-87 is the right years I think. Also the gaskets are the same you may have to do some trimming on the gasket to make sure it doesn't restrict airflow on the ea82 intake. GeneralDisorder
Manifold-to-head gaskets are the same for pretty much the whole EA series except the EA82T, and EA82 MPFI. They have the dual-port heads. You'll need to do some trickery with the upper radiator hose. Just find something that works - probably modified EA82 upper hose. If you have EA81 power steering there may be some issues with clearance, and the location of the upper radiator hose will not play well with the pump belt. Probably have to switch to the EA81T/EA82 power steering pump assembly. GD
A DOG
Thanks for the info so far. I don't have power steering so that aint a problem. I did read that if you mount an EA82 manifold it hits the distributor. If so what can I do to prevent this?
GeneralDisorder
It will go on, but your mechanic will need to be a little ingenious - you may have to turn the distributor so the vac advance is on the other side - have to flip the mounting plate over to do that. It's not that big of a deal if you understand distributor ignition systems and how to time it with the distributor 180 degrees out. Ask TomRhere - he's done it with his Brat. TomRhere
http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c264/TomRhere Got a rough write-up on doing the swap there, still have things to do to it. But it'll get you going. The write-up has the Weber spun 180* on the manifold. I did that just to help clear disty. If you look in the '84 BRAT file, there's a couple pics of the Weber on the right way, but with a couple of spacers under it.
