Roundeye
Here it is. What a blast! I passed by a few cops and MPs with no problems. The hatch is coming off next!

Done in a regular photo viewing program as I don't have PhotoShop, but you'll get the idea.
chazmataz
thats exactly what i was thinking about doing to an EA82 wagon that this guy i know is going to give me. execpt i was going to go with tube doors like what jibs has on his brat, other then i was going to bob the back alittle and build a rack all the way to the back. i haven't thought about doing that with a picture to see what it would look like but thats a cool picture too. i like it! mtsmiths
Thank you, thank you ... this is about what I'll probably build to take back to Hawaii when we return 'home', someday. Have to do it on the mainland and get it registered then ship/transfer. The Peoples Republic of Hawaii would never allow a chop job like that to get registered over there. I kinda think of it as the Subaru equivilant of a WWII command car. http://web.tampabay.rr.com/oldman/ I guess the name of the link says it all ...:-\

Roundeye
This is great it should be done I see some similarities Now that is SICK! I like it. If this car was not so straight and rust free I would build a full cage in it and remove the top. So far I've done nothing to this car that cannot be easily put back. I gotta find a beater I can cut on!
NoahDL88
I think that looks really cool, but i caution you, that the doors are not just to keep the rain and fat chicks out, they are very important to side impact safety. Looks really neat though
MachineAgeVictim
I'd worry about the frrame strength after cutting the back of the wagon off, but some tubes welded in would fix that right up
75subie
its been done with no known frame problems:

Looks really neat though Noah, when I do my Hawaii cruiser, I will be welding in the 1/2 doors after I get a lip on them. Also the full door top rails will be cut out, then moved in to the center to form a 'T', so I know the structural integrety will still be there. Unless I really thought I needed a tail gate, I would also weld in the bottom 1/2 of the rear hatch so it would be completely tubbed. Then I could hang a full size matching spare on the back, and maybe a jerry can as well. This would drive Hawaii DMV & cops NUTS, but they couldn't DO anything about it. As long as it got registered and licensed from another state, they have to accept it. heh, heh, heh ... How about WA, can I do this after we move there, or do I have to do it in Montana? Where there are (to quote the Outback Steakhouse), NO RULES! I did this many years ago (long before any of the regulars here were born.. 'cept maybe frag, eh?) to a split window VW bus. We cut the whole thing off at the beltline and left only the windshield. All the doors were welded shut (except the 1/2 rear hatch which was bottom hinged), and the front doors were cut down, a la CJ Jeep. The whole thing was painted O.D. with white stars, and a Mattel 50 cal machine gun was mounted on a post behind the front seat. I had eight inch wide rims on it, and with low pressure the damthing would almost float (we were tempted to try ... but actually hadn't drunk that much beer ... or whatever, this was 1967). We made many dune and Mexico surfing trips, and I drove it to work at a defense plant (but they made me park it in the back lot).

Subarian
This is great it should be done It kind of reminds me of the metal doors we welded on our HMMWVs in Iraq. Of course, those were 1/2 inch steel, which is really hard on the hinges, and even harder on the toes when the hinges break.
subeman90
just a little note: you need to have a side mirror. I had this pointed out to me when i had my wrangler....In most states you had better have a mirror on there if you are going doorless. The person that told me this said Maryland will throw the book at you (not that it matters to the W coasters)....and PA is the same too. Check your laws and don't give the Heat a reason to spoil your fun.

ShawnW
Just don't pull out in front of somebody--which goes without saying but with no doors you'd really take the hit in the chin.
Turbone
Granted, all the photo shopping and stuff looks cool and its a nice idea. BUT, in my neck of the woods, if your running without doors, you run the risk of getting some serious face smacking from tree/brush branches. I prefer keeping whats left of my feeble eyesight by keeping doors on my rig, along with windows. I know, I take the fun out of everything:rolleyes:

While wheelin the trails out there, I had tree branches and blackberry bushes smack me (Those blackberries have thorns too! ) So what I did was stay to the passenger side of everything. Though that didn't make the guy sitting with me in the car happy.
