part of black near the back wheel's ...why?

can someone tell me please , i saw it on a lot of loyale's on the web, why a lot of loyal's have this black part near the back wheel's , is it just color or rubber or what? and why it's there for?

on most vehicles it's an aerodynamics piece, to push the air around the tires since they are very un-aerodynamic, Subaru might have done it for aesthetics (althought that never seemed to matter to them anywhere else )

it was on GL-10 and RX models standard, i believe it was also on xt's. Just a trim peice for high line models

Hmm I could've sworn Subaru put those there to hide the rust they knew would develop there after ten years....

but how it connected to the body? to the body+door? but the door can't open if it connected to the dody? look at the pic....

Hey 74 This is Jerry, the reason they put that part there it is a rock guard. Thats where all the rock chips are. If you look at some cars that don't have that part you will see a bunch of rock chips in the paint. Thanks Jerry

Only GL-10's and turbo cars got them. They were also standard equipment on all XT's.

 

Odd thing worth mentioning is that RX coupes with NO body kit did NOT get them (both of mine didn't).

 

I think it's mainly to add a sport kind of look without sticking on a full side skirt. No real aerodynamic benefit there, and I haven't ever had a car with many rock chips in that spot- they've all been behind the wheel.

 

They're actually two-piece- there's a door section and a rocker section. That's how the doors still work with them attached. The rocker section is held on with double sided tape where it meets the door sill, and screws along the back and bottom. The section on the door is just held on with double sided tape.

 

In this picture you can clearly see the line between the two sections:
