MORE HELP ON 85' brat

Recommended Posts

i went out to the junk yard and was able to start the thing up and it ran alright but it had flat tires and car surrounding it so i wasn't able to drive it...

supposubly one of the spark plug sockets is crossthreaded

and there is some minor rust as well as some hail damage on the hood

my ?'s are:

is the crossthreaded spark plug a big deal? (it's an ea81) and how hard would it be to fix

also much rust gets to be too much to mess w/ and be a total pain in the @ss?

$400 still sound like a good deal?

Get a thread chaser, that might straighten out the threads, most mechanic shops should have one you could borrow, that or pay them to do it. How bad is rust? are rear shock mount areas in bed suffering from cancer? what about the rocker panels? major holes? a little wheel well rust is probably the last part that I'd worry about. 400.00 well thats not bad, but remember your in a salvage yard, a pawn shop of sorts for cars. Lay out 300 cash and tell him to throw in some used tires, you've got a 50/50 chance at scoring the unit at your price, tell him how much work it might take to straighten out the crossthreaded plug hole. At any rate dont give in right away.

most of the rust that i saw that concerned me was on the bed of the truck

most of it looked like it could be easily sanded off but there was one patch on the wheel well about 2x2 inches at the most but wasn't close to rusting though
