I am in the process of building my new house in Iowa and I just won a claw foot tub on ebay. Now I got to go pic it up and it is located 200 miles away. I am not sure how much the tub weighs but I am thinking less then 300lbs. Now I am 250 (I have a iron addiction ) and my prego wife is probbly around 150-170lbs soo.. should I have any problems with weight. Thats 710lbs. TomRhere Posted April 22, 2006 Share Posted April 22, 2006 Nice score!!! I really like those old tubs. As far as weight, I'm thinking you're close, can't really recall though. I've moved a few, and they are hefty. The BRAT will hold it. Tubs about 5' at the base, before the slope starts, and it should fit between the wheel wells ok. I can't recall how wide the base of the tub is, but thinking about 24", some are 18" though. I've hauled my riding mower in mine, older 8hp-36" deck, and it's hefty in itself. Had to pull the deck and sit it lengthwise in the bed. The BRAT carried it ok, but she didn't like steep hills any. Wife was driving BRAT, and had Son with her, 125# for the Wife and 165# for Son, plus mower = oooff. I suggest a couple rimless tires under the tub to help cushion it, don't want to break the feet off. Best to remove the feet though, but not always possible. Zefy Posted April 22, 2006 Share Posted April 22, 2006 i hauled myself and my buddy (400lbs+ combined) and about 300-400lbs of snow up to my house... some freeway, and LOTS of hills... while it was kinda interesting when turning and whatnot it handled it like a champ... a little overheating... (lucky for me though i had a truck full of snow so cooling down the engine wasn't to hard!) and mine is a 79 brat with the 1600 and s/r 4spd! your car can handle it no problem! (if you still worrysome PM 'subaru jim in maple ridge' and ask about some of the stuff he puts in the back of his suby... he says i have no faith in subaru when i tell him i was worried when driving with lots of stuff in the back...:-p) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

DaveT Posted April 23, 2006 Share Posted April 23, 2006 Back when I was younger and a little crazier, I hauled a 12V 1000AH lead acid battery set from Vermont to Connecticut in my 76 1400cc 4spd 4WD wagon. Each cell weighed about 150Lbs for a total of about 900lbs. It handled pretty wierd - big delay in steering wheel input to actual change of direction on the highway... I made it, no problems.
