How to pypass park to starter connection

Recommended Posts

I am basically done with the auto to manual swap, thanks to this forum. I have been searching for info on how to bypass the park switch to starter connection so I can start this thing up, but haven't found any good posts. I know there is a good one out there but I can not find it. Can anyone help me find a good post, or tell me what I need to know to figure this out. Thank you

if your car was a 3at, look at the car end of the shifter connector. there will b e 2 fattest wires in the iddle, one black with white stripe and one black with yellow.

if you jump these 2 wires the key will engage the starter

i made an inch long wire stripped on the ends and doubled over to shove into the connector, then tape up

if you disconnect the nuteral safty switch it should work cuz there isnt a sensor, so you should find the nuteral safty switch and disconnect it, might work might not worth a shot, id be desprate to get her started to,

I am still stuck. I have found a few ideas, but I do not know the locations of any of the parts and my HAynes isnt helping me much, as always. It seem there should be 2 wires on the tranny wiring harness that stayed in the car that could be spliced together to make this work. Any one know? I am anxious to see if this actually worked as planned.;

I spliced the two big wires, both black with a yellow stripe, from the shifter linkage wiring harness, I was under the impression that this would by pass the neautral switch which would make the car start. Didnt work, it is still making a buzzing noise just like when I used to try and start it in a gear besides park. This is a 4eat just to clarify. Thanks

OK... I tried that since my RX was a 4EAT and I just went to a pushbutton on the dash and a kill switch hidden somewhere else;) Never could figure it out so I cut the harness just short of where it comes out through the firewall and voila, no more problem. Just use the big ole button

I thought I knw how to do this but am failing at this moment. I need to have a wire going from positive on the battery, to a switch then back through the the starter but I dont know where to hook it up after that. By the way I put a fuse in. .

well what I did was I figured out which wire was hot in the "start" position so the key has to be turned to start in order for the button to get power. Once the button gets power (running it form a battery works too), you'll need to run a wire from the button to the back of the starter where the small wire that goes from the ignition attaches to. It'll be on the side of the starter solenoid near the back of the starter.
