Installing a WEBER

Recommended Posts

We're putting a Weber32/36 electric choke in Hatchy's rig. We are ripping all the emission junk off, and plugging whatever. What to do with the fuel return line? How bout the crankcase breathers, put filters on the valve cover ports?

Every weber filer I've seen does. Should be a 1/2" hole on the bottom of the filter, and a white or black plastic screw-in fitting. Go to a VW (import) shop and get another filter - they are like $10 with the element, and the covers and clips. Comes with the breather fittings.

Found that 1/2" hole... oh well. Anybody ever have an offset issue with the adapter to the manifold? This one kinda overlaps foreward, and a little cocksided.
The manifold is "cocksided"--the adapter fits straight on the manifold.

Yeah, I noticed... but the adaptor sits a little too foreward, good half inch.
Who's adapter did you get? Redline, EMPI, or homemade? Sadly it's normal for the weber's front left to just touch the ignition wire cap on the distributor. They seem to all do that with the Hitachi distributor; rumor has it that doesn't happen with the ND version.

does the nd one make more power?if not electrical tape on the part of carb that is near ignition works great..

Ghetto. If you really want the hitachi to work, rotate it a bit - have to slot out or relocate the mount tho. Or get a LOT of spacers to lift the Weber up out of the way.

No more power - seals out water better tho. The cap seal is one peice instead of four. That and the Weber fitment are why I use them. But be ghetto if you must - I don't want pics tho.

OK, back again, the kit is from redline, motor is EA81, adaptor sits foreward and I can see half inch of manifold gasket surface, stick my finger in the hole and can feel alot of the rear adaptor surface. Have a few distys laying around.

Normal - grind on the adaptor if you like, but I've ground a few, and not ground others - doesn't seem to matter. If you are really up for a project - get an EA82 intake, and the adaptor for it. They flow better, and the adaptor fits a little better too.

Sorry you bought the kit - I made that same mistake my first time. Such a rip off for what you get.
