Annoying rear wheel noise...

Featured Replies

...that my dealer cant seem to hear or diagnose. 2005 Outback 2.5 XT, with chirping squeak that abates when brakes are depressed. Seems to be worst when car has been driven awhile, no difference in volume, only frequency as speed increases. Any thoughts?

Makes sense

Would think dealer could figure that out

Thanks

If they couldn't hear it, then they have nothing to go on besides what you say. Dealers suck

Possibly the brake pad separated from the caliper. This happened on my '01 OB. It did not chirp or squeek until I drove about 3-5 miles and went away when applying the brakes.

I took it back to the dealer who could not hear it on a short drive. I told him to get on the freeway and drive it for a while. Sure enough, he heard it ( and fixed it) under warranty.

My '03 baja did the same thing. It turned out to be the pad seperating from its metal backing. Found it only when I did a full rear brake service. Very annoying.:-\

The least they could do is take your pads out and inspect them, and inspect all other rear brake components. What they SHOULD do is replace the rear pads.

Legal deafness is a job requirement for subaru mechanics. I've been there.

Its the service associates that are deaf, the mechanics are blind.
