patkennedy78
Yeah, no kidding, what happened, that's a pretty big ding. Did you guys take the engine out? Was it drivers or passengers side?

Passenger's side. We left the engine in the car. No idea how it got that far out of roundness.
Caboobaroo
looks like the headgasket is blown and when that happens, it'll become way out of round. Here's the pics of the old headgaskets from my RX when I tore the original engine down... http://community.webshots.com/photo/302403464/1302422152067339125ZSRPpn
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
Are those Subaru Originals, or Aftermarket?
Subarutex
I've had that happen multiple times. Thats why these motors are crap. Most likely it was detonation that caused that. This was my first encounter with a blow out like yours: My last one though, it was even worse. I'll try and remember to find the gasket and take a pic... mikeshoup
Well, the motor is a hybrid SPFI block with turbo heads... so I'm not too surprised this sort of thing happened. looks like the headgasket is blown and when that happens, it'll become way out of round. Yup, blown headgaskets was the reason for pulling the heads off. Phil and I were hoping to see something cool on the gasket. Are those Subaru Originals, or Aftermarket? The guy who put the motor together said they're Subaru OEM.
Caboobaroo
I know the headgaskets that I pulled out of the engine from my RX were OEM since they still had the Fuji symbol on them...
