EA82 and EA82T: Whats the difference??

Recommended Posts

So I'm planning on replacing my engines, but not sure if it'll work. My 87 Subaru RX is 1.8L Turbo that currently has an engine that is EA82, which is blown. I wan't to put an engine in there that is EA82T. I have no idea how different these engines are, if anyone know, please help.

The biggest differences aren't because of the "T" designation, but rather it is MPFI and few other EA82s are. MPFI means different heads, different intake systems, different PCV system, different computer, wiring and fuel systems. All the "T" really brings to the party is a different crossmember and different exhaust plumbing (and some minor intake differences).

If all your information is correct, the EA82T should drop right in as that would have been the original engine in the car?

No, EA82 was in there when I bought the car. After about a month of driving it, the engine developed a really bad rod knock.

if i read this post correctly you have a EA-82T now. the T means its turbo. even the EA-82T's dont have the T on the block. but if your car is a turbo car now you have an EA-82T in there now.
