pheonix165 Posted May 18, 2006 Share Posted May 18, 2006 did a search and looked through pages for the past few months (couple hundred posts) and didn't find what i was looking for. first, when it says swap the 4wd distributor for the 2wd one, cant you just switch the weights? is there a spring and weight kit that you can buy? second (and this may sound dumb) when it says a turbo muffler is that a brand? or does it mean a muffler from a turbo? anyways, thanks for your help. oh and one other thing...does anyone know if they make a jetting kit for the hitachi (please stop saying get a weber the carb i have works fine its the air filter assembly that seems the most restrictive) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NorthWet Posted May 18, 2006 Share Posted May 18, 2006 The 2WD vs. 4WD distributor difference is legend, and one respected member claims it to be a myth. (I do not know, just passing condensed info along.) I have also only read this in reference to EA81, and I believe that yours is an EA82. "Turbo muffler" is a generic term for a certain style of muffler. Origin of it was from the muffler designed for the Corvair turbo or the 60's. The EA82 is the same way - not sure if the EA82 got the ND disty's or not, but EA81 got Hitachi and ND. Both have the same curve. I use the ND (2WD) personally, because I like the way it fits with the Weber, and the fact that the seal is better against water intrusion under the cap. But that's just my prefrence. It does have a slightly hotter spark as the ND coil is wound differently. All this only applies to carbs, BTW. the SPFI, MPFI, Turbo, etc use only one Hitachi model with a crank angle sensor. In fact the SPFI and Turbo disty's are the same and interchangable. Timing is completely controlled by the ECU - changing it will give you zilch. As for the weights - no - different brand so the parts are totally different. Turbo muffler is just refering to what muffler shops call a "Callifornia turbu muffler" - looks stock, but has a better flow to it. Jetting kit - HAHAHAHA. No. Wrap a wire around your linkage to make it mechanical rather than vacuum. GD Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The fact that they give you more usable power is just a side benefit. The best thing is that I can, and have, fixed problems with my Weber on the side of the road on two occasions with a slotted screwdriver and a pair of duckbill pliers. As far as I'm concerned, that's all I'll ever need as far as the carb goes. And that makes me go The muffler, like NorthWet and GD said, is a generic cheap high-flow muffler. You can spend what you want on it, but I laid out $35 and am totally happy with mine. I think the brand on mine is IPC? products or something. If you go to any speed shop worth their salt and ask for a turbo muffler and tell them you need [2", 2.25", whatever] inlet/outlet they will hook you up with the right part. Same with an exhaust shop who makes your exhaust, except they'll already know what pipe size you're using... As far as the factory air cleaner assembly, has anyone just taken the snout off completely and made a bigger hole in the casing? Short of a weber, just cutting the end off the air-box helps a lot. Mine was (is) moving pretty good with just a hitachi - even on 28's.
