Vanislru
86 ea82t Loud pop!? not quite like a backfire an then no ignition motor died out. It turns over well, no unusual noise. So far we've checked; distributor, maf, alternator was abit screwy so it got changed out. There's no oil in the coolant, or vac leaks that can be found, the fusible links are good. Tomorrow I'm going to help him check the timing belts and then a compression test. Vac guage too. This is a friends car, and he is currently using my work truck to drive himself up to the north end of the island to work. I want my truck! So I want to fix this fast and it's not happening. The crappy alarm system with a disable feature and hatchet wiring job is begging to be removed. It might also be related to the alternator that I noticed was charging high like it lost a diode. Bat guage climbed with rpm and his battery showed some serious overcharging had occured! Any other things to check out?
operose
to clarify, it turns over but won't start? definately check timing related stuff... something about a screw in the disty.. t-belts, tensioners, pulleys
desperate
if its turning over but nor starting, there is a resistor under the ignition coil, try replacing that. I had the same problem with my loyale, took me 2 weeks to find the problem. I don't know if you can find the resistor in a store, i had to buy one from someone on the boards
86subaru
if it will not even turn over , check the cables going from the battery to the starter , this was my problem + ground+ fuses ,
Sister7
if its turning over but nor starting, there is a resistor under the ignition coil, try replacing that. Check for spark. If there is no spark I would look into this. I think they call it the ignition impulse amplifier (it's a transistor). Mine went out after a bad alternator was over charging. Vanislru
Motor turns over well, starter is fine. No spark tho today so that's the direction I'm looking to right now.
