stavan
The lighter of my Subaru Legacy 1990 has been disconnected for some reason. I want to repair and get it working (I need it for my Bluetooth). Haynes Subaru Manual doesn’t say a word about the lighter. My questions are: Where to start? Where it was connected originally? Was it all times on connection or only when the key is in? Any thoughts and suggestions are highly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Stan

Light - two line connector to the side (IIRC, I'll have to look) Ground - spade plug on the rear side. For easiest access, take the kick panel off. That is the lower part of the dashboard under the steering wheel. You will need a flashlight, and a healthy dose of patience. I hope you have small fingers. It is a bit tight and awkward getting to it.
subie94
you can also get access to it by ways of the radio opening....(of course after removing the radio) IMO-that's the easiest way.(i know, hard to believe)
stavan
Thank u guys! I will try removing the radio this weekend. The problem might be there because the radio has been changed... other connections are fine because the light (green ring around lither) is OK. One question though: subbie94, do you remember which cable is it when I open the radio... Well I have to test them... I guess thanks again
nipper
Two wires to the lighter itself. They dont have much slack on them thats the reason they fall off alot. Its a very easy job and self explaintory when you see the wires. One is black thats the ground goes on the outside of the lighter. The other wire goes to the center. it is possible the l;ighter is dead, and its easy to replace. nipper
subie94
here's a pic of the assembly from my 94 legacy...should be the same. green wire's power. black wire's ground. the two red wire's for the light. pull the fuse for the cig lighter assembly first. to remove the assembly, disconnect power wire and remove light.then you have to loosen the metal ring (counter-clockwise?)you may need a flat head to push against the grip bumps(lack of knowing the exact word for the part of the retainer ring) once you remove the ring,it'll come apart pretty easy.(self-explanatory) once removed, you can just test it with a multi-meter. i had to replace mine awhile back cause of a small wire that was broken...
