Anthenium Posted May 20, 2006 Share Posted May 20, 2006 Okay, I adjusted my timing today. ( '91 Loyale 5-Spd, 4WD Wagon) I had already changed the plugs, wires, cap & rotor. It ran okay, but MPG is about 28, so I thought I'd take a look at it. It was at 10 Degree's BTDC, and the book calls for 20. I set it to 20, and it is smoother, but almost powerless until about 3K RPM. I found the pair of green (connections) wires in the cowling, and connected those before adjusting. I'm going to see what my MPG does before adjusting it again. (I'm also going to check that I disconnected them after I finished!) Does anyone else adjust theirs to an "Alternate" setting with better results? Any other Tuning tips? manxsta Posted May 20, 2006 Share Posted May 20, 2006 Hi there...at 20 btdc..it should pull clear and crisp from around 1700rpm...maybe you need to check your air filter too,this can cause reduced flow and bad economy....you could be onto it with the green plugs though..i always do the green plug thing thing when setting timing ... some mech,s say it does not make a difference ..some say it does....i just follow what the subi books say..you cant really go wrong then... happy hunting......oh also FAT TONY..you dont have a misplaced body in the trunk do you...that will tear up your economy too.. At about 1/2 throtle it pulls steady up to about 4500, where I usually shift. If I floor it, there's a couple of flat spots, but it still runs pretty good. And you were right. I got my EA82 (Weberized) with 28º ... but I know that they works fine at 25º too... it brings more quick acceleration... and with higher octane gas, and a more powerful coil (Like Accel Superstock of 45,000 volts, instead of the stock 27,000) you would not hear any valve pingin` well... it works fine for me... and for some friends that got EA82`s that I have repaired.
