redsox f.f.
So my steering rack is leaking and and I ordered one from checker (reman). Does anyone forsee any problems that I might run into, especially with disconnecting the tierods from the steering knuckles. also, will i need to flush out the steering system and if so how can i do that, just pour fluid through?? any tricks for loosening frozen exaust manifolds?? thanks. fastwgn286
be sure not to bend the lines or move them too much! i broke the steering rack in my last car, and the shop that repaired it (no time to repair on my own....) moved a power steering line too much, which loosened one of the machine crimped couplings, and i lost power steering until i buried that car.... Andyjo
i didn't flush my system, but i've replaced the rack in my OBS, and it wasn't that bad, i'm not sure the method for flushing it.. but i should look that up.. Those little tubes are sort of fragile, so go easy on them.
lmdew
Remove the 10mm nut from the line cross clamp. Then the lines will go on individually. You should be able to thread them all the way on by hand. They can be a bear to start and they can be cross threaded. You can use a vacumm pump to pull most of the old fluid out of the pump before you pull the lines the rest will drain if you let it. Then just fill it up. You should go stop to stop with the new rack to bleed the system and keep the pump full.
