bryanthompson
Hey guys and girls- What is the difference between a 78 2 Door Sedan and a 78 DL 2 Door Sedan? In this picture, all I notice is the stripe. Did the DL have more options? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Literature/brochures/1978-a.jpg Thanks Bryan
SUBARU3
The "base" car, Non-DL, had vinyl floor covering, no radio, domelight without a switch, non-locking glovebox, no stripe, no wheel trim rings, no clock, no day/night rear view mirror, no trip meter, no rear defog, no tinted glass, no radio. Yes, a box on wheels! Now.....you could ADD any options to the base car, so that's why you see some with these base models with various items on them. bryanthompson
Man, the DL was a true luxury car in comparison... Thanks Todd- BT
moosens
Just PM'd you telling you to search for the old brouchures... You're fast! A 2door std. was only available in manual 4spd.The DL was 4spd or automatic. Std. does not have the cover between the body and bumper. Std. came with no radio. Probably a couple other differences...too tired right now.

SUBARU3
Paul...your right! The spacer trim between the body and the buper was missing too! Good one! Oh...the truck did not had a vinyl cover for the floor. Now the 5 speed was also offered in the DL in 78. Todd
moosens
Now the 5 speed was also offered in the DL in 78. My FSM says only the 4door DL got the 5speed manual. But we do know that '78 was the year of Frankensubies, mostly in the wagon catagory though,it seems. SUBARU3
Paul...I think you are right. Original base cars were 4 speeds. However.....they can be and have been, converted to 5 speeds. Todd
bryanthompson
What is "Frankensubies?" Does this mean that the newer vehicles were inconsistent and sometimes used older styling and mechanical parts? Is that specific to 78 or Subaru in general? By the way, Todd- I did it! Its mine! It will be here in a week or so and I am very excited. Now, I need to get that tranny cooler, seats and some OEM stripes for the doors. BT
SUBARU3
CONGRATS!!!! I think Paul means that 78 had some mixed options. Like where there was suppose to be a clock, it was missing and those that didn't get one ....had one, ect. Subarui is notorious for that. It's no biggie though. I have the pattern and can duplicate stripes if you need them. Todd
bryanthompson
YES! I would love to duplicate stripes. Let's talk more when the car arrives. BT

moosens
Congrats! And don't worry about the FrankenSubie comment. Like I said, that's seems to be mostly in the 4WD wagon.Mine is a little weird too,but I'll never complain. We found many stipe kits in the stash THAT I'M BUYING...with Andrew and Charlie from CT. bryanthompson
Awesome news about stripe kits. I would love to be your first customer. Can't wait till the car arrives. As soon as it gets here I am sure I will go on an all-out crazed and obsessed quest to fix all the little details. BT
