Meeky Moose
well in august we have a demo derby here.. 4cyl class and 8 cyl.. so i think i'm gonna make my parts car rwd (dual range 5-speed spfi) put an LSD in the rear, mount a cone filter stright off the top of the throttle body out the hood, relocate the radiator to the spare tire compartment, battery to the pass side floor board, and fuel cell in the back seat and run her in the derby.. we also have a 78' Volvo wagon with a 4cyl in it.. wieghs in at 4800lbs and is solid metal, lol.. we just gotta get the damned bosch mechanical fuel injection to work and we're gonna run it too.. i think the volvo is gonna crush about anything in the ring.. 88HatchMonster
Yeah Volvo's dominate in the DD, they're such bricks. But you should keep the Sube 4WD if that's allowed, when you're down in the muck you'll be able to hook up and get up to ramming speed faster then anyone else! Also, I wouldn't bother with the LSD... they really don't do much more then you're open diff. And get us some before and after pics!
Meeky Moose
well its gotta be 2wd, they said.. already thought about the 4wd, lol.. but we can weld steel in the doors.. if we get the volvo running we're gonna mount an onboard video camera in it to get footage.. of course we're gonna have someone in the stands filming too
jeffast
don't bother wasting an lsd just weld the spider gears on the stock diff no matter what happens both tires spinn at the same speed caution can cause axel damage on pavement

Matty B
Aim to drive the whole thing in reverse! Less to go wrong when you back into them. I like the General's Idea with cement.
Uberoo
cement would suck becuase its very heavy= you get stuck.around here we cant move the radiator, use a 4x4, or beef up the body aside from welding.Don't use the suby for demo derby, one good hit to the front and you dont run anymore becuase the distributor is located right up front.Get the volvo running,Ive seen volvo wagaons clean up the compact class and just have a mildly crumpled tailgate. WoodsWagon
Just look under the hood on a volvo and compare to a subaru. 2" between engine and Rad on subie 12" between rad and volvo engine. Deffiniately weld the diff.
keltik
Hehe another good comparison - tap the roof of a soob with ur knuckles then whack the volvo with a hammer and see which sounds more solid. Having 3 Volvos in the family I KNOW how heavy and solid they are! KELTIK

Sweet82
I cheered on a little 82 wagon in one of those. Did good for a while, but... Unfortunately, it only took ONE front end hit, before he was dead:eek: Got to avoid ANY front end contact with those little beasts.
