adamthegreek
We are trying to buy a small boat. Did some searches and it seems a lot of people tow with their Outbacks but what about the legacy? I believe they have a different suspension. We have an 03 Legacy GT Sedan with a Draw Tight hitch. It tows a utility trailer fine but how will it handle a boat. Its rated at 2000 lbs and the boat we are looking at is a 15.5 foot with a 70 hp motor. A total weight of about 1300 lbs with the trailer. Anyone pull anything like this some distance with a sedan? hutch85
I have an 02 Legacy L wagon MT and pull a 16' boat with 115 hp motor, probably weighs more than what you're talking about and the car handles it fine. Gas mileage drop was neglible too!
Esteban32696
I ALWAYS suggest taking the boat rig to a scale, dropping it, & having it weighed, fully loaded like you were going out in it. Very hard to estimate weight of a boat. Then, I would not tow over about 75% of the cars recommended limits. Remember, you will have equipment/passengers in the car, too, so TOTAL weight is a factor as well.
