Syonyk Posted May 29, 2006 Share Posted May 29, 2006 '87 GL, SPFI. I've removed the bolt that keeps it from twisting, I've pulled the rotor off, and... I can't get it out of the engine. It was stuck pretty solidly, so I used a strap wrench to turn it (and broke one of the little spring clip things... are those easy to find?), and it'll turn to the ends of it's adjustment area, but I still can't get it out of the engine. I need to pull it so I can replace it so I can get the car running again. Suggestions? hooziewhatsit Posted May 29, 2006 Share Posted May 29, 2006 if they're both out of an SPFI engine, they *should* work. You may have to swap the connectors on them as well. GeneralDisorder Posted May 29, 2006 Share Posted May 29, 2006 As long as it came from another fuel injected EA82 it will work. SPFI, MPFI, even turbo all use the same crank angle sensor distributor. It's really a very simple device inside. Nothing like the carb units. Timing is really controlled by the ECU. I'm pretty sure the diaphragm thingy on my Turbo's dizzy with a vacuum line to it is a vac advance... seems to me 87+ don't have a vacuum advance, and instead are controlled by the computer?
