Tin Soldier
My friend got pulled over because he had no taillights. Upon investigation he has headlights and brake lights, but not parking/marker lights. Flipping the switch on the steering column does nothing. This is an 86 DL wagon I believe. Any Ideas?
Caboobaroo
might checkin the fuse or possibly the headlight switch.
phathurkryme
The fuse is good. I replaced it with a new one, but that didn't help. I'm certain it works because the tail lights and instrument panel lights are on the same fuse. The fusible link is good. If I pull it, then I have no headlights. When I put it back in the headlights still work. Brake lights are good. Reverse lights are good. Headlights are good.
Caboobaroo
wait, you're in FTC? I'm only an hour away and have many many many parts! I might even be able to come down for a day and help you out possibly but my Bronco = crappy mileage so it wouldn't be until my RX runs again... phathurkryme
Whoa! I drove to Laramie one day when I was depressed! I was just exploring, then was like "Whoa! I'm no longer in Colorado!" LOL Heck yeah we'll have to hang out. And, if you were coming down to help out sometime, I'd gladly pay for gas.
Caboobaroo
sounds good! Let me know if you need any big parts like hatches and stuff. I also have a few engines and trannys coming out of my ears for these as well... As far as your problem, do you have the front parking lights too or none at all? If its none at all, then you might want to check into the headlight switch which I have like 3 of currently...
phathurkryme
Nope, no parking lights. I have headlights, and brake lights. No parking/marker lights. I was playing with the switch earlier, but to tell you the truth, I'm just dumb as far as the electronics in these things. Speaking of parts, do you have any tires lying around? :-p The ones that I have on my car have dryrot, so I don't trust them beyond FC.
Caboobaroo
actually I have a decent set of all season tires on black steelies... these were on my RX when I got it from the yard. I also might have some other wheel/tires as well.
Cougar
I would take a look at the light switch as the cause of this trouble. It may be just a bad connection at a connector near the switch also.
kingbobdole
ttheres a connector right above ehere your feet go that whhen pulled or coroded or tugged it goes... look for a white connector that looks burned inside... or like a wire was pulled out... this happened on my 6 and is happening again... The first time my big foot tore it out, and now its gettting burned.
phathurkryme
So, the order of things was ... Replaced fuse. Didn't change anything. Replaced bulb. Didn't change anything. Checked fusible link. Didn't change anything. Tore the dash apart, checked, unplugged, and replugged all connections. Didn't change anything. Pulled out the switch on the top of the column. Put it back in. All is well.
