Convert carby into injection

Recommended Posts

How much work is there to do to convert a carby to injection on a ea82 motor and what would i need to do it.

Just want that extra power, or unless any one has some ideas of putting on a turbo to fit.

Well, seems we can't get SPFI in Aus, and seem MPFI uses different heads it makes it diffacult to do an easy "extra hp" gain. If you get a wrecked EA82t (turbo) car (or just buy the engine with the loom and ECU) it isn't "to" diffacult to put it in. hardest thing is the loom I would think.

Other option is to buy an adaptor plate and Weber carbie to fit your EA82 manifold. They say the Webers give a lot more power, esp down low. But if you buy an adaptor plate it is like $140, and the carb second hand will cost $50 to $150. Then you might need a rebuild kit for it, another $100.

Sometimes you can get more umph with new plugs, leads, rotor, cap, air filter, fuel filter, ect, ect.. But I think if you want more power, you WANT MORE power... If you get a wrecked 85 to 89 RX you most likely will get a rear LSD and rear Disks too, which will make your power upgraded car stop as well. Always a helpful thing.

Oh, one other thing... You might be able to get a dual carb manifold and carbies from.. somewhere in Aus.. and that is a bit better then a weber. They came on EA81's with different heads. But you can just get the manifold and carbs which should fit to your EA82. Might have a bit of re-piping to do, because of the different place for the thermostat housing.

If you can get the parts, its not hard. Sounds like you'll have trouble getting the parts. Any EA82 with SPFI (maybe, late model Loyale/Leones?) (Throttle Body Injection) will have an intake mani that will bolt right up to your heads.

Someone even created a nifty manual for conversion:

I dunno who, but it wasn't me.
