decking the block

Recommended Posts

I the reason is... it's easier to deck the heads, to deck the block, you'd more than likely have to split it. Gotta be carefull. Decking the heads and/or block, could make the intake not bolt on anymore (I'd think after some serious metal was removed).

Oh, maybe they deck the heads mainly due to warping?

just wondering, everyone talkes about decking the head on ea cars to raise the compresions....

why not deck the motor and leave the head alone the reason being to keep the head material as thick as possilbe.. anyway just a thought...

Hi tailgatewagon,

I've decked a block to make it square with the world but...piston to cylinder head clearance is the first thought that comes to mind. How little you can get away with is something i just don't know at this point. I'll be finding out tho. Somewhere down the line.

In general, 0.030 is the standard for deck clearance, so depending on compressed head gasket thickness some piston hight above the block may be fine, I know the EJ22T has some. Be sure to check for valve clearance.
