What have other's done with Jerry's 5 speed kit as per the clutch? I know I need an ea82 clutch disc, but are there any other ea82 clutch stuff I need to get the Brat rollin? Any tricks or anything? Jerry told me to use 2 lock washers on the bolts for the starter cause the ea82 starter needs to stick out 90 thousandths more, but anything else? OH - I use the ea81 4wd shifter right?

BTW - Jerry's kit is AWESOME!

Jerry to; me that you use an 84+ea81 fly wheel an 85 six spring ea82 friction plate and an 84+ pplate

did you get the kit from him

if so then you use the 81 shifter

if not than you use the 82 shifter[with the ea81 trans crossmember with the 82 trans bushing on it all three

and your right on with the washer shims

hope this helps

Ok I have a couple of questions.

1) How do we fit the clutch cable in with the 5 speed swap? Its too short using the ea82 Clutch cable bracket. Should I use the ea81 Bracket, or get an ea82 cable?

2) How do you mount the shifter plate underneath the boot to the body? There's a threaded part that bolts to the ea82, but not too much on the ea81. How have you done it? Thanks.

it's not really too short (clutch cable) but it does appear that way... I thought the same when I did mine... you have to use the ea81 cable, as the ea82 cable has a completely different pedal side set-up...

I think you only need the washers for the starter if you are using the EA81 flywheel....???

no idea on the linkage, as I just used all ea82 stuff....

We're trying to use EA82 stuff for the shifter... but the mount for the actual shifter lever has no way to bolt up to the EA81 body.

And he's using the EA81 flywheel, so i hope those washers work right :)

oh.. and do you HAVE to use the 2 piece EA82 driveline? Would a 1 piece EA82 driveline work. He's doing this to a brat.

I thought with Jerry's kit you re-use the EA81 shifter parts? or is that just the 4WD stuff?

I thought all ea82 drive-shafts were 2 piece?

I took a regular ea81 shaft into a driveline shop and had it lengthened....

I think he welds the EA81 4WD shifter to the EA82 shifter assembly in such a way that you retain the 4WD lever for the EA81 but are still using the superior EA82 speed selector....

Yeah, you retain the EA81 4wd selector. But the rest is EA82 stuff.

I thought there were 1pc EA82 shafts, but i could be wrong.

I Got a PM from Jerry that cleared things up a bit. Hopefully Jibs can get everything wrapped up, tired of seeing his brat sitting in the garage :)
