LPGsuperchargedBrumby
doe's anyone know if the doj innerspline/cage and balls for a 23 spline front axle will fit in a 25 spline cup? what im trying to do is fit a FT4wd RX 'box into a brumby, now i can get off the shelf DOJ's that will do this....but i kinda need all my arms and legs:lol:
Phizinza
Sorry, can't say for sure. But I would think so. I heard that the EA DOJ's will fit in Early Liberty Cups. So I would think the 23 to 25 spline cups would be the same... *I would think* Fat load of help I am, huh...?
GeneralDisorder
There is a combination that will do the job - there was a member that did the EJ/AWD 5 spd conversion to a Brat (Brumby) quite some time ago. He stated that he used the DOJ cups from a early 90's Legacy Turbo (92/93 vintage). What I don't know is if he was using 2WD or 4WD EA81 front axles. I'm assuming 4WD as that is what the Brat came with originally.... but you never know. Most likely the 4WD EA81 axle will slide into the legacy turbo cup. A real write up would be nice, but thus far no one has come forward. GD

BlueSteel
when i was looking for driveshafts to fit an RX AWD box with 25 spline output shafts i found you can get inner DOJ with 25 spline to gearbox and 25 spline to axle inner DOJ with 25 spline to gearbox and 23 spline to axle axle with 25 spline inner and 25 spline outer axle with 25 spline inner and 23 spline outer outer CV with 25 spline to axle outer CV with 23 spline to axle so basically any combination you can think of is out there, but actually finding out which configuration comes off witch car.. good luck! i think a lot of it depends on the manufacturer of the driveshaft happy hunting Bluesteel
suberdave
when i did my rear R160 converson into my GL wagon, i got some converson races from http://www.rockfordcv.com/rcv.htm . they were only $6 ea and worked to mate the WRX inner to the GL shaft with no problem. i know its different but if all else fails its another path to follow. -=Suberdave=- http://www.suberdave.com
88HatchMonster
Check this post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57559 NKN I80723 Thats a Subaru 25/23 spline DOJ. http://www.nknjoints.com/ is the company. Johnnyboy in Christchurch, NZ picked those up at his local CV shop. I had no luck finding them in the US. and Shops want about $150 a piece to make the axles (which is a fair price, actually). What I'm gonna do is use some EA81 FWD auto axles and swap on some early Legacy inner joints I have. I've verified that the splines match up, with a junk set I had. Hopefully the good pair I just got from Jerry also work with the Legacy joints and cups. I'll let everyone know how it works out when I get around to trying it. LPGsuperchargedBrumby
well i got a 25 spline doj/axle assembly and a ea82 23 spline doj/axle assembly and pulled them apart to see A,if the 23 spline doj had a 23 spline axle shaft in it and B, if the cups would swap. both the 23 & 25 spline doj's have 25 spline axles in them so i can't use them on my brumby rx 'box conversion:banghead:. but the cups swapped so rather than trying to i think i'll shell out the $600 that they want for the off the shelf 25/23 spline cv's so i won't be getting them for another month or so. on a side note the ea82 dojs i've got are hugely bigger in dia than the ones that are on my brumby like about 12-15mm
86ruguy
when i did my ej swap i used the inner cups off a 91 legacy and my original shafts, balls, and never even took the shafts out of the car.

Yeah EA82 DOJs swap with legacy DOJs, but neither will swap onto an EA81 4WD axle shaft. But they will swap onto an EA81 FWD axle. That's how I'm going to put an 5MT in my hatchback. 88HatchMonster
do ea81 FWD's have a 25 spline axle shaft? I'm not quite sure what you're asking. EA81 FWD's have 23 Spline DOJs, just like EA81 4WDs. BUT, EA81 FWD axles are compatible with EA82/Legacy DOJs so you can make a 25 spline axle out of an EA81 FWD axle using an EA82 or Legacy DOJ. Johnnyboy
Great news then mate! Let me know how you get on with the cheaper ones... i might pick up another set for my next project! Can you PM me where you got them from? On a side note, i paid $450 for my set up.. which i thought was crazy at the time, but $600 is worse.. perhaps prices went up? 88HatchMonster
sooo... the actual axles shaft splines on the ea81 FWD shaft its self are 25 spline? There are like 21 or 22 splines on the shaft, something like that, but anyway it's the same number as are on EA82 and Legacy shafts. Meaning you can throw a stock EA82 or Legacy DOJ on a stock EA81 FWD axle. I just did a pair earlier tonight. But anyway, it looks like you're all set now, but I figured I would throw the info out there for the record.

torxxx
I had to convert 25 spline axles to 23 today at work. I was amazed at how fast one can do them. takes about 2 minutes to cut the old band off, pull the retainer ring, swap cups slide boot back, reband it.
