Radiators for Loyale vs. GL/DL/RX

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a new rad for my '93 Loyale. Canadian Tire sells them for $276! Ouch! But they also sell a rad for the '88 GL/DL/RX for $135. That is more like it! However, the rads have different part numbers, and looking at their listings for rad hoses, they sell different rad hoses for them. So there must be some difference involved.

Does anyone know for sure if the the early rad will fit a later Loyale?

(Yes, I Know I could get one mailorder from the States for like $100, but by the time I pay for shipping, brokerage, tax, exchange, and go through the hassle of having my credit card number ripped off by dishonest call centre employees working for the shipping company, I would rather just buy it locally, thank you! But there is no sense in paying an arm and leg for it, if I can get by just paying an arm.)

Rob.

very good question. Ironically I am here seeking same question answered.

I have guessed the later loyale may have gone to plastic where thier used to be some metal.I remember finding rust on my dl radiator, and noting that the loyale I have did not in the same places. If so, I want the older one..I am sure it would fit. I can not figure out the heat in this loyale and why it is so much hotter, without coolant consumption.It is different part numbers for a reason though..

I recently got a rad for my 93 loyale off of e-bay for about $50. Took a while to ship it to me, but works great! Looks like there are some on there now, but make sure you look into who you buy from and ask the seller questions if you aren't sure. I've got the 5spd in mine, but was sent the automatic rad. Works fine, fits the same, and I'm pretty sure that I could hook up the oil to the tranny cooler on the rad (if thats what those extra two tubes are) to make an oil cooler. Other than that I've only seen them for $100 or more.

http://www.radiatorbarn.com

http://www.radiatorexpress.com (they might be the same company...?)

They were both helpful on the phone, just ask if they ship up north.

2-row all-metal upgrade w/ AT lines (I used this in my RX)

http://www.radiatorexpress.com/product.asp?part=1986+SUBARU+RX++%2D+1%2E8+liter+H4+RADIATOR+Name+Brand+NON+TURBO+2%2DRow+All+Metal+Upgrade&part_id=40020&aaia_id=1270189

As far as I know from my research, any of them from 85-94 will fit (EA82(T), not EA81 or EJ's).

Subaru OEM radiator hoses are the same part# for top and bottom as well.

Whatever you get to work, keep this updated for future reference.

I installed a 2 row in my 93 Loyale Wgn. I had to trim out a little of my radiator core on the passenger side next to the headlight mounting frame to fit because the radiator tank is larger. Was`nt a problem. Make sure you cut about a 1/4" off of the end of the 4 clutch fan mounting studs to allow for room to re-install your fan or your going to have fun...
