cat coverter question for 93 legacy

Recommended Posts

ok so this is my car

93 subaru legacy wagon 2.2L

I brought the battle wagon into Midas today to check out whats wrong with my exhaust, 10 minutes later they bring back the keys and tell me the cat converter is cracked down the middle and needs to be replaced he says they dont have the subaru part for it so i would need to bring it down to the subaru dealership to get it done. He also told me to expect it to cost alot of money since its the part or type of cat converter that splits in two.

my question is, is it easy to replace something like this your self with a friend? or does this require alot to be done?

also if i get this done does anyone have an idea of the cost?

also im not sure exactly what part i need, any have an idea?

Any mechanic that advises you to take the vehicle to the dealership to fix it deserves to be shot on the spot.

There are aftermarket cats available, just stay away from anything that says, "Eastern". They have a really bad reputation.

As for your second question, I do not know. There are two things I don't do myself on the car and they are exhaust and transmission.

Good luck and keep us posted.

yes you can do this yoursself. You may have some studs break on the exhaust flange, but thats easiy fixable and avoidable. Just soak all the bolts in nutbuster, and dont forget new gaskets.ALso a new o2 sensor
