sisu
I'm SISU's friend and am having a problem with my subaru...anyone know what's going on and can help? The transmission seems to go into neutral on it's own; sometimes at a stop sign and sometimes when first starting. It happens intermittantly and seems to be getting more frequent. I can get it into drive by gunning the accelerator while pressing down on the brake.
Strakes
Have you checked the transmission fluid level...is the fluid level low?
northguy
There is also a solenoid type switch that can leak, and it appears as if the tranny is in neutral. My son's 92 Legacy requires a minute of idling in the winter to pump the fluid into the switch. That might be it???
nipper
try shifting it manually and let us know what happens nipper
nipper
Thinking about it there is a solenoid inside the tranny the controls the over running clutch. This allows for engine braking. It releases the over running clutch so the car is in "neutral". If this solenioid is sticking/going or its seals are bds this could be the reason. nipper

nipper
new old doesnt matter, it still sounds like the solenoid. Take it back. nipper
