jonas
hi guys. i have some dashlights out and it is highly irritating since most of my driving is at night. so i got my dash apart and i got to thinking about changing to a different color than the current amber color. has anyone done this? what color did you go to? what did you use to replace those little amber plastic pieces for speedo/tach? i'm thinking either red, blue, or green. i like blue but practically every piece of interior in my car, '84 wagon, is blue. if no one has done this then i intend to be the first! Ever Victorious
On an '02 Spectra I had, the default colors were a slight bluish-white. I replaced the white bulbs (with blue nylon covers) with red bulbs of the same size, and it gave the dash a wicked look.
The Korean
Well you could do 1 of 2 things... Easy way: Buy the colored light condoms and throw those on Hard way (at least this is how it is for the WRX and STi clusters... in a nutshell): Take the cluster off, scratch the colored film off on the back of the cluster, paint whatever color you want on the cluster, make sure lights are clear/white, put back together I've never owned or even seen how the cluster on the older models are, but if it's sorta like the newer ones... well then we're set... ausubaru92
You can buy the T10 led globes off ebay (these are the same type used for the parkers lights) They might be worth a shot
4WDFrenzy
I would consider changing the color to red. For one thing, it will look like the STi gauges. For two, the red is pretty easy on the eyes at night. Just my $0.02.
Sonicfrog
I changed my digi dash to analogue. Got an 85 / 86 series from the J-Yard for $30 and used that to start my mod. I used that year series because the tint behind the speedo / tach numbers is white, while the 87 + are green. The easy way to tell is that the needles on the 85 dash are white. I took the orange tinted needles from an 87 and put them on the 85. My big mod was putting small red LED's behind the base of the needles to give the needles a redish hue. It turned out pretty nice. I played with different bulb colors and ended up using orange, as that turned out to be the easiest to read. I'll post some pics and more details on Monday. jonas
i'm leaning to red but i won't be able to do anything till monday. it'll just depend on what color bulbs i'll be able to get my hands on locally.

GeneralDisorder
An 82 guage cluster is a direct swap for your 84, and is already orange/red in color. Just have to find one. Or the 80/81 cluster is also orange/red, and has really cool guages that sweep vertically instead of the usual arc style all the later soobs use. It will physically fit perfectly, but the wiring is different. I put an 80 cluster in my 84 wagon after the digi-dash blew. Had to redo all the wiring and make an adaptor harness, but it's possible. Would be a lot easier to go from analog 84 to analog 80. GD
