Kilroy
I am trying to get the large nut off of the end of the front axles, right outside the disk brake rotor. It is coming off of a '93 Legacy Wagon LS as I am going to remove the transmission and front diff. The nut is recessed in the rotor, so it has to be removed with a socket, it looks to be about a 30mm size and I am going to purchase a socket in the morning. Does anyone know the exact size of the nut?
BigMattyD
The axle nut is 32mm I believe.. matt

operose
don't know about the newer cars, but I have seen some that the size depends on the manufacturer... that's if you're installing different axles. I've reused old nuts so they were still 32, because the new ones were a different size
idosubaru
there are two different sizes. not sure if one is more common or "stock", but in my experience...mostly with older subaru's though, it could be a 32 or 36 (i think). there could be more than one size. best to take the car, buy the socket, check it outside and if it doesn't fit, return it. or buy the new axle....it should come with a new nut and you can take that into the store with you. or measure it.
