seanski06
its just a crappy little round piece, not much beef on it at all....am i going to be regretting it later on that i didnt drain my tranny oil again and replace it.....whats the symptons that can occur? when i replaced the drain plug i wraped some teflon tape around the threads so i dont think it'll leak.. (tho i could be wrong) and whats the normal amount of build-up to form at the magnet of the plug i have a 96 impreza 2.2 5-speed 197,700miles....and when i seen how much metal shavings were on the end of the plug (1/2 inch thick at least) it made my heart drop to my stomach.....this is the first change since i've had the car and i also changed the rear diff. oil and once again my heart sunk when i realized there was hardly any oil in it and the stuff that did come out....was a thick grey color....now that i changed it....its not as nasty of a noise now when going in reverse..it almost sounds like the normal whine that these cars have instead of the grinding dropping weights noise. Kilroy
Take the car out for a little drive and get the engine warm and then park it on a clean spot. Check it in the morning for any oily spots on the ground beneath the plug. I don't think you will have any troubles, you put teflon tape on it to seal it. I'm wondering what happens to that tape once the threads are inside the tranny though. Will it break down in the hot fluid and come off the threads? idosubaru
i've seen about that much material on the magnets before as well. no problems came about on those vehicles, i bet you're fine. distribute all that fine grit across the many gears, plates and goodies inside the transmission and i bet it doesn't add up to much...like 0.01 mm of surface wear throughout the trans. best to have that crush washer in place, but probably won't leak without it. 2X2KOB
Don't worry about it, the guys that work in those 30 minute oil change places throw those washers away by the hatful and never have a problem.
