Jerry DeMoss
Funny you should mention that cause there is a guy at the company I work for that has an old bug that he put a ej22 in.It is completely de emissioned and friggin loud and fast!If you see a orange/primer color bug with white 17" rims on it around denver that is the one.Definately doable but a little time consuming. 970subaru
I was wanting to do a ghia but then I started looking into how much it would cost and how much work to do it right... NOT cheap. but I was pricing all new kennedy stuff, a porsche 901 trans(you have to rip the gears in a car like that and a type 1 trans wont take even an ej22e abuse) all the piping, plus cutting up the car. lots of work. Mr Fishums
A few simple upgrades can make the VW trannys take up to 250 horse power http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=634 http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1208 or you can convert your VW tranny with some porsche parts: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1353 or just get the whole thing brand new: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=648 if you think you can make your motor do more than 300, go with this: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=649 Hope that helps, I wouldn't put down the VW motor or tranny to much. It can do alot more than some of the people around here beleive. At the local drag strip, the fastest street legal ride there is a 69 pale blue bug.. with a bug block, and a bug tranny, It makes STI WRX's cry and the guy drives it to the track. djkindt
would you need all wheel drive?? the cars are light enough, and have all the weight right over the rear wheels. I'm sure you wouldn't have too much trouble.
Nug
I have an EJ22 in my Bug. You will probably want to get a mig welder for this one. The car has run a 15.1 at 92mph, that is with a stock ej22 and stock vw tranny. There are traction issues, even with a 8"wide rear tire. The car is a blast to drive, and no one suspects anything because it's quiet and there are no external hints as to what's going on. There used to be a video on here somewhere of me trying to do a burnout but instead just pushing the locked front tires.
Jaime
That VW bug is awesome. An ER27 would be too big for the bug perhaps. In a Baja bug configuration it could end up well, but not an easy fit in regular street bug trim, am I right?? If I can not get a Bratt or a wagon, I might look into finding a cheap engineless car, to fit a Subaru motor. I lakie Subaru engines and cars so much, I am going around all this stuff like a kid at a candy store!!!

I saw his Subaru powered Bug at VW's on the Green this year... check out the pictures at my website: http://www.krautwagen.com/2006%20Volkswagens%20on%20the%20Green/index.html (the pictures of his bug are on the second line of thumbnails on this page, just click on the thumbnail for larger picture. Really NICE work on this Bug, with the hood and deck lid closed it is a real sleeper. Cheers! Andy
