xoomer
Anyone got a Ea81 Wagon Clutch pilot tool.. I'm not sure if the motor I have is any good so I'm going cheap and just puting in a disk. I need to track down a pilot tool so I can get set up.. Preferably in seattle? so I can do this here in the next few days? This is a 81 so I don't have to do emisions any more.. Is there any benefit to removing the emissions equipment? (Gas Mileage? or more performance?) if so is there a list of things to remove? X
GeneralDisorder
Use the search for the emmissions stuff - been covered. Short story - no. EA81? You can just leave the PP loose, and tighten it through the starter hole in the bell-housing. Easier, no need for the pilot tool, and I've had the pilot tools "fail" and spent two hours trying to get the damn engine on. So now I never use them. Don't even own one anymore. GD Agreed, clutch alignment tools suck its sooooo much easier with the pp loose. I really hate it when i'm working on a non subaru where you can't do that! WoodsWagon
If you have a spare junk tranny sitting round, you can use a torch to cut the input shaft off. It's the perfect alignment tool. I welded a ring onto mine so that I could pull it back out of the disk easier.

Use an old shaft....learned that on aircooled VWs!
