EA82 cometic multi layer steel head gasket need lots of help here

I spoke to cometic gaskets the other day because they produce custom gaskets. He said he would make the dyes to make MLS or multi layer steel gaskets if he could get an order for 500 pcs. thats 250 engines. I know its alot but the end result would be amazing. With multi layer steel you can stack the inner part of the gasket to make thinner or thicker gaskets. Perfect to get the carbered block down a littler on compression for a turbo motor. This was for the ea82 motor.

Well I kind of put this up as a joke. But if you could get enough people together man it would be nice. As for General Disorder I don't expect you to buy all 250 sets. Besides a set of these gaskets would be alot cheaper than to oring the block have a custom set of copper gaskets made and then with your fingers crossed hope that you will get all the water and oil ports sealed.

There are already several sets of copper HG's out there - people have already had them made, and they are not that expensive. They leak like crazy, and I woudn't use them anyway.

 

With the o-ring's you just use standard gaskets. Fel-Pro is my choice.

 

I understand where you are comming from, but the cometics are not needed. Subaru made rally engine conversion kits for the EA82T rated at about 175 HP on stock gaskets. It's a matter of doing things the right way, and watching the temps and fluids. Engine management is the key to reliable power.

Man... You sure are on a roll today...

 

As someone that actually HAS RUN COPPER HEADGASKETS, I can say that the advantages are slight, and the engine will still blow the gaskets if you ping too much.

 

I vote to save yourself the time and money and invest in OE or Felpro gaskets and the needed tools to do the HG's on a monthly basis.

 

Also Wes, you are not the first to contact Cometic about the gaskets, but people that run EA82's (for the most part) don't want to spend the money on that.

Well said! Keep the temp gauge down and save yourself the money/time of blowing gaskets.

Bingo. We're a bunch of cheap SOBs in the old gen forum.

 

... I'm probably in the top 5% of people here in terms of "amount spent on my Subarus." And I wouldn't buy metal head gaskets. Mostly because I don't have a turbo yet. :-/

 

Remember, this is the forum of, "I just paid $200 for this Subaru, it's not running quite right, how can I fix it for $50?"

 

Followed by 2 years later, "Well, I just sold that Subaru to buy a newer one, I put $400 into it over 2 years, got 50k miles out of it, and sold it for $500 to a friend."
