I'm trying to change the bulb in a 2003 Impreza Sedan fog light. There are 3 bolts holding it in. I used WD-40 for a few days in advance, but when I tried to take it out, the first bolt snapped off. I'm afraid to try torquing the others for fear of more of the same since I have no idea how hard it's going to be to get the broken bolts out. They appear to be turning into plastic and I can't see them from the bottom. Anybody have experience with this?

1) Don't use WD-40, use PB-Blaster

2) Shock the bolt instead of applying constant torque to it, apply a little torque, then tap the wrench w/ a hammer. (Simulating a really weak impact gun)

3) Heat the crap out of it if you can without melting plastic/burning stuff

4) Make sure you're turning it the right way

Good luck!

I'm not sure how hard it is to change the bolts.. i'm guessing there's just a hex in the plastic, which the bolt sits in.. hopefully it wasn't molded into the casing...

Thanks. I'll try it. The bolts are hex-head but they're inset behind the fog light and within a plastic enclosure. I think heat is clearly out. Tapping may be too since it'a a piece of plastic with nothing behind it. Turning the right way is not in question unfortunately; I learned that one the hard way 30 years ago on a Chrysler lug nut. We'll spray for a few days then try again.
