Numbchux
possible? I've got a FWD 4EAT from a '92 legacy listed on CL right now, and I had a guy email me back saying he'd like to have it to replace his AWD 4EAT.... is this possible? I know there's wiring and such for the duty C stuff, so it definately wouldn't be possible (or easy anyway) to do it the other way around, but what if you just didn't connect them, would the FWD wiring plug into the AWD harness? just maybe with less pins....I dunno, I'm mostly thinking out loud here. I also have the TCU, so if the wiring is the same, he could maybe swap in the control unit and get it to work....
Hocrest
We had a FWD Imp transmission in our AWD SVX racer for a short time. The wiring was plug and play. At WOT it didn't shift right from 1st to 2nd, We would have to go off the gas as it shifted. But otherwise all was fine. At the rear, either he can leave the rear diff and axle's in place or remove them and source a couple of axle stubs off of a front wheel drive imp or leg. idosubaru
if the years are the same i'd bet you'd have dave's experience and it'll work fine even without swapping the TCU (but you can give him that too and that may work better). the farther apart the trans are in years and the closer you get to any changes in wiring, then you might have issues. i don't know when those changes took place though. i believe 1998 or 99 was a big change (screw on filter type 4EAT). and then the late 80's/early 90's 4EAT differs from the ones installed in the EJ series as well, but i don't know by how much. Legacy777
I'd recommend swapping TCU's. Other then that, just remove the driveline and leave the rear diff and axles in.
