testy
Somewhere on my left front end there are some wicked and loud grinding sounds that randomely sound. There is nothing stuck in there and the rotor is not rubbing. Also when Im traveling at highway speeds (40mph +) and am on a corner there is a grinding/friction sound and feeling coming from the left front end. I have no clue what to look for under the car so im pleading for help. I also have to periodically tighten the nut (with the cotter pin) on the hub because it comes loose. The grinding sound isnt a solid sound, it does not last the entire rotation of the wheel. And I know its due to spinning becuase the (pulsing) grinding sound gets faster as I pick up speed. Then It might disapear all together. It is really quite loud too, easily heard over engine noise. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks alot, i hate when my car makes weird loud sounds. waimaks
I had similar symptoms when my wheel bearings were going out. How is the nut loosening? Doesn't the cotter pin stop that? I'm not sure what to say about it not lasting a complete rotation. I say eliminate your wheel bearings first anyway. Jack up one side at a time, spin wheel and listen for anything. Hope I may have been of some help.
Ross
Most probably the hub nut is coming loose because the washer under it has been installed backwards. Try taking the nut off and turnign it around - notice that it is'nt just a plain washer..
