Mike Moore
Is there a differance between the cans on the turbo motor and the carb motor on EA82. If there is would the turbo cams work Better on my EA82 then stock. I have the carb motor in mine Thanks Mike
mikeshoup
Yes, there is a difference, and no, the turbo cams probably wouldn't work better on your carb motor.
Mike Moore
ok what is the differance. just trying to make it breath better
calebz
Actually, It depends on the year.. This is something I came across quite a while ago, someone with an 85-86 FSM will have to verify. 85-86 Carb and turbo used the same cams. 87+ they are different with the turbo cams allowing for less valve overlap
Mike Moore
The turbo motor came out and 86 and don't know year on mine it's a used jap motor. I live at high altatude. just looking for a way to get more air. Was hoping the turbo cam had longer duration than stock carb cam.
NorthWet
Not quite what was asked... this is from the 1989 FSM that is on "Finleyweb", section 2-3 pg 6: SPFI: Intake (open/close): 10BTDC/54ABDC (Duration: 244) Exhaust (open/close): 49BBDC/15ATDC (Duration: 244) (Overlap: 25degrees) MPFI Turbo: Intake (open/close): 14BTDC/56ABDC (Duration: 250) Exhaust (open/close): 56BBDC/14ATDC (Duration: 250) (Overlap: 28degrees) (Duration and overlap were computed by me, so may be subject to math error.) I thought that I had heard that the SPFI cams were "wilder" than the turbo cams, but it doesn't look this way for this year. I am interested in finding out what the mildest cam for the EA82 series is.
mikeshoup
From the 86 FSM: Carb Intake (open/close): 3 BTDC / 51 ABDC Exhaust: 47 BBDC / 7 ATDC SPFI Intake: 10 BTDC / 54 ABDC Exhaust: 49 BBDEC / 15 ATDC MPFI non-Turbo Intake: 12 BTDC / 58 ABDC Exhaust: 58 BBDC / 12 ATDC MPFI Turbo Intake: 3 BTDC / 51 ABDC Exhaust: 47 BBDC / 7 ATDC Appears in 86 Carb and Turbo are the same, but the rest are different. I dunno what any of this means though. Someone else can do the calculations needed.

Of course all this is time related factors, but I found zero difference physically with 1989 sube book for physical height (lift) and duration. good info, never knew they were physically different....
