Killer Chewbacca
The window handle on my 83 GL is stripped (because its plastic). I have been searching parts stores and no one seems to be able to get a replacement. I could go to the junk yard but I thought I'd come here first. What is the part # of the replacement? Does anyone know a place where I can get a replacement? Is there a window handle that would work from another car that anyone know of (would like a metal version in possible)? Sweet82
Just take the good window handle off the other side and keep it tied to a string from the rear view mirror. Who ever needs to roll a window can just push it on and roll the window down. Then when someone else needs it you can always find it. It will never get lost of stolen as long as you use a good quality string.

If it matters, the part number for your vehicle is: 761155120 - Gray - 1 LEFT IN U.S. 761155130 - Beige - 5 LEFT IN U.S. 761155140 - Blue - 5 LEFT IN U.S.

Take your car to an auto parts store. Most of them have a section of miscellaneous parts in red packaging, called "Help!". They probably have a half dozen or so window cranks. The ones I saw were all metal. See if any fit--don't be misled by the fact that they are for Chevys or Fords; often the splines will fit other cars too. We had to do that for a while, but I just kept it on my door, then "lent" it to the passenger as needed. One solution is to get some of those little foam disks you put on the bottom of a candle when the candle holder is too big. Fold it in half and lay it over the hole where it goes on the crank and jam it onto the metal crank part sticking out of the door. It'll stay on pretty good and the disk will last a couple of months... just replace it when it falls off again. They come 12 in a pack, so 50 cents will get you a few year's worth Works for me! GeneralDisorder
On my ex's beater toyota, I tack welded the rusty pliers she was using to the crank splines.... GD
daeron
i had my dad's favorite pair of four inch vise grips as my passenger window crank for about three years in my 280Z.. then i found a car in the junkyard with like four cranks, and sheepishly brought it back to his house.... on the one hand, he wasn't very happy that i'd stolen his vise grips.. knowingly.. but on the other hand, they were returned to him just after all of his tools had been stolen in a break-in...SO it was kind of a silver lining. I have a beige interior, so beige would look better. Do you know how I can purchase any of these or how much they would cost?
