P K
Hello All, I reckon this be true, but it's always good to hear it from more than one person: I am looking for newer carpeting for my '82 Brat, so... is the OEM carpeting the same for Brats and Hatches - Yes/No? Is the Wagon front carpeting a little shorter, or is it the same too? Thanks in advance, r/PK
GeneralDisorder
My experience is that the carpet is dependant on the type of transmission more than anything. On the 4WD, the shifter area is different as there is carpet between the shifter and the radio console, and there is not on the 2WD 5 speed. If you find one for an EA81 automatic they are similar to the 4WD's, but the rubber portion under the pedals may be different. Carpet is divided into front and rear under the seats. Obviously the rear carpet for the Brat is not the same as the rest, but you could probably *make* a rear brat carpet by cutting some off the wagon or hatch rear peice.... OEM shmoem, new carpet kicks rump roast. Works for the bed too, I've kept an original carpet as a jig for cutting around the seat belts and stuff. GeneralDisorder
Yeah - the new carpet idea is good - also gives the possibility of adding more insulation, and sound proofing. I'm sure there is some good stuff to be had. If you go that route tell us what you find... GD

But if you want a total onroad subie then the carpet does a lot for cutting out the noise. In my Brumby I have vinyl and I have removed the rear part just to make it easier to clean and dry out. But left the front in for its practical use, keeps your feet from slipping. If you have the old carpet/vinyl I'd do the new carpet thing. Sounds the best.
