korrupt66
I recently bought a 97 Legacy wagon 2.2 with 94k. After about a 1000 miles I notice a knocking at start up till operating temperature then it seems to go away. I was wondering if anybody had any idea what it might be. Any help would be great. I put a ton of miles on this car and I want to make sure I'm not damaging it.

I am no mechanic, but having both forms of knock on my '99 Forester I can tell you what others in the know have told me; First if you have knock like yours, the cold start up type, it is nothing to worry about, and has no effect on the engine, moreover, it is very common so I am told for these engines. Less common is what my car also has(I believe is due from over heating)- The persistant Knock all the time, it sounds kinda like a Diesel. My engine is on the way out. svxpert
well, if you just got the car, i would do a tune up asap. make sure you put the correct weight engine oil in the car (10W-30) maybe that will make a difference.
