99 Outback Head Gasket Help Colorado

Recommended Posts

I think I may have the dreaded blown head gasket. Outback overheated tonight and when I pulled over the overflow bottle was full and overflowing and the coolant in the bottle looked dirty or oily. I've got about 130K on this Outback. This is one of the symptoms of a blown HG correct?

Anyone have a recommendation of a good mechanic in the Denver area that can diagnose and do a HG repair well? Reasonbly priced would be good too. Thanks, Ken

Strictly Automotive quoted me $1400, I think, to do the HG back when I thought mine was leaking (it wasn't.) I had them do my timing belt and they also replaced some of the pulleys and the water pump. Total cost was just under $1000 but that was 7 months and 8,000 miles ago and so far, so good. They seem to have a good staff and apparently enjoy a good reputation.

Your best bet it http://www.ccrengines.com. They are off of 58th street on the north side. They only rebuild Subaru engines!

Strickly auto is another good shop in Denver.

I agree! This having a '99 Myself; It would cost more upfront, but you would have: a tight fresh engine, a good warrnaty, and the peace of mind of not having to repair the engine again in the near future!

John

PS. Let us know how you come out.
