focheezy
I am looking to buy a 1990 legacy non-turbo...When I went to test drive it, there was whining noise coming from the engine when I was accelerating but the car didnt drag. I drove normal and the guy said it has always done that. Has anyone ever had this problem? I just dont want to buy it and have it break down on me. Everything drove fine though...let me now ASAP because I have to decide tomorrow! Thanks guys!
Manarius
Is it a 5MT or AT? Could be an input bearing. Open the hood and see if it's coming from the belt area. It may just be a worn out alternator or AC compressor.
focheezy
Well the AC belt just broke that day so the guy told me he would install another tomorrow and the AC should work fine...Maybe it was that when I was test driving the car? Dont know really...But I will check tomorrow and see thanks

focheezy
is it a whine or a roar? nipper just a whine...kinda like when you downshift and it makes that noise when you are coming to a stop light. Instead it makes that noise when you accelerate but it doesnt drag...it drives normal.
