torxxx Posted September 5, 2006 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Got most of the wiring harness pulled today at work. Figured before I went any farther I'd ask.. How much more of a PITA is it gonna be wiring up the 95 impreza 2.2 into my EA82 wagon? So far, the only things I see different is ALOT simpler wiring than the harness of a 92 (which I've already pulled) There is alot more wire lengths because of where the ECU is located (under passenger feet) but other than that, I like that the harness plugs together where it comes through the side of the car The engines got 87,000 miles on it, so I'd rather go with that than a 150k+ 90-94 engine. I think I'm going to leave the wire harness intact and just stuff it in a rubbermaid tote and urethane it shut and stuff it on the spare tire shelf. Someone who's done the swap wanna list off the wires I will need to run to my EA82 carb'd harness? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
86ruguy Posted September 5, 2006 Share Posted September 5, 2006 my first ? is, are you using the engine and trans out of your donor car or are you sticking with the original trans? second, i did the swap using a 95 motor and was going to use the harness and ecu from the 95. i found out however that the 95 is OBD2 and that it involves a few more sensors than i wanted to deal with. ie: it has two O2 sensors, and i was told that the car would never pass emissions if i did not connect the fuel tank sensor that is in the 95's gas tank. so what i did is, i went to the PAP and got the ecu and intake with injectors and TB, and the COMPLETE (can't stress that enough) wiring harness with the ignition relay and the FP relay and used that. the only wires that i had to actually connect to my factory wiring were the 1) battery power (key off) 2) ignition power ( key on) 3) every possible ground from the new harness. 4) you'll also have to replace the fuel pump with one that pushes at least 45 psi(do not hook this up to the factory FP wiring in the car as you will have to deal with the lack of fuel that i had) 5) if you want, i have wiring diagrams that A VERY KIND AND HELPFUL SUBERDAVE gave me that i can e-mail to you. i hope this helps good luck and may the SUBIES be with you dave Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
torxxx Posted September 5, 2006 Author Share Posted September 5, 2006 It will be running the dual range tranny. 95 is ODB I not II, so it shouldnt only have 1 o2 sensor. The reason why I say this is because there is NO ODB-II plug in ANY where in the dash. The car doesnt have to pass emissions tests. A turbo fuel pump will be going in the car and I will be running a new wire from the FP relay to the pump (carb'd car, so only 2 wire fuel pump, no relay). That puts out up to 45 PSI doesnt it? BTW, manufacturing date on the car is 10/94 so I'm pretty sure its still ODBI unless subaru did something weird and made it so you can't scan the ecu with a scanner. If it is ODB2 I might just use a 90-94 intake setup and ECU. that would still be do-able wouldnt it? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
86ruguy Posted September 5, 2006 Share Posted September 5, 2006 the fact that your donor is 10/94 prob makes it definitely obd1....so that makes it a lot easier i posted a couple of pics of my 95 harness in my gallery....it may be hard to tell but this harness has a lot more to it. still let me know if you need any more help. i'll do my best. btw...mine did not have to do emissions either so i cut out both cats that came on the legacy exhaust(which fit under the car until i could get my 2 1/4 in exhaust) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Numbchux Posted September 5, 2006 Share Posted September 5, 2006 I would HIGHLY recommend trimming down your EJ harness! I thought it would be easier to just transfer the whole thing, and not have to worry about it....and that's why it took me 3 months to finish the swap. once I decided to strip it down to the bare minimum, it only took me about 8 hours basically, if it doesn't either go to the ECU, or the engine, trim it out. when you're done, you should have all your sensor/ignitor plugs, a ground (or 2, but make sure it's a big wire, and connected everywhere it needs to be), a batt +, a IGN +, temp gauge, tach, and Fuel pump +. I used an old dash backlight to wire in a CEL right into the harness, it ends up being right next to my clutch pedal, easier to read codes than an EA82. an oil pressure light would be a good idea. and Vehicle speed sensor/reed switch might be a good idea too, although I didn't hook mine up, and it only seems to be throwing a code as a result. not sure about 45psi on the fuel pump, I thought it was more like 32, but I can tell you the stock SPFI pump in my loyale is enough. and that your carbed pump is not nearly enough. also, make sure to leave that california setting ungrounded! these should work with your car since it's OBD I... I got all of the harness pulled today, and sure enough, theres a odb2 scanner plug in in the harness. the old owner must have pulled that part out of the dash with the lil access door.
